About Jerusalem

Many different epithets characterize Jerusalem: Holy, Eternal, the City of David, the place where come the wanderers from all countries and the center of the three main religions and the mixing of races and cultures’. All of these and much more is Jerusalem.

The richness of its thousand-years of history, with countless biblical references to rulers have created an invaluable cultural heritage of Jerusalem. Notwithstanding of the circumstance that the most of historical monuments are undistracted in the Old City, no less interesting also the relatively new and modern areas.

The antique town is surrounded by a high stoned wall and divided into four quarters, and each of them is distinguished by its religious characteristics.

From Jaffa Gate starts the main pedestrian street of Jerusalem. In the Tower of David is the museum where presented the summation of history.

Armenian quarter, the least of the four, is full of atmosphere of the past and provides a unique chance to see the local daily life, as it is still inhabited by a small community of Armenians who have their school, church and support of ancient tradition.

Christian Quarter abounds of souvenir shops and appears as the reception centers of various Christian denominations. You can visit the Way of the Cross, where the nine stops scattered along the Al-Wad Road, while the last five are hidden in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

For the Muslim area is characterized liveliness exotic bazaar of Al Qattanin, various shops of spices, souvenirs and trinkets.

The Jewish district was destroyed and has recently undergone thorough reconstruction, resulting in a more modern and habitable style. Most synagogues are open to visitors, except Saturdays and access to places of worship are not admitted.

And, certainly no matter how spiritual you are, it is hard to remain indifferent and not visit the Holy Sepulcher. Here come all the Christian communities of the world, Orthodox, Catholics, etc., united by the desire to bow and pray on the holy place where Jesus’ body was buried.

A sacred place for Jews is the Wailing Wall, the original of which was destroyed over 2000 years ago, and there was remained just a small part.

The Mount of Temple, with its famous dome in gold, is the most photographed attraction in Jerusalem. According to legend, this is the place where Mohammed raised to heaven and joined to Allah. Vast esplanade of the Temple Mount is open to everyone, with the exception of the Jews, but you’ll have to settle for inspection from the outside, because the entrance is admitted only to Muslims.

On the Earth, there are places which are destined to fame, as is the epicenter of hard historical events. Here you can feel the atmosphere of acute bygone days and a special charm of antiquity. Such is really Jerusalem!
